Galungan
One of the revered festivals in the island – Galungan occurs every 210 days and lasts for 10 days. During the festival, people of Bali celebrate the victory of virtue over evil. Visitors can enjoy wonderful dances, ample of cultural food, and a great jovial ambience. Inhabitants of the island decorate a tall bamboo pole outside their houses. On tenth day celebrations take place at water temple; Tampaksiring and ancestors are honoured with countless tributes.
Tawur Kesanga and Nyepi
Travellers booking tickets to Bali in advance for travel during late March or early April can take part in Tawur Kesanga and Nyepi. It is celebrated for marking the beginning of new lunar year. Tawur Kesanga falls a day before Nyepi. On Tawur Kesanga, villagers create effigies of monster and after paying tributes they burn it within ceremonial fire. Next day, Nyepi, the day of silence is celebrated without any amusement and merrymaking. No one is allowed to move out of the house since the stillness of the island tricks the devil spirit into thinking that villagers have left the place.
Bali Art Festival
Come June, and the island basks in the glory of Bali Arts Festival. The full month festival features stunning daily performances, magnificent handicraft exhibitions and countless cultural activities. It is an annual cultural event of Denpasar or can say entire Indonesia takes part in the carnival. Bali Art Festival offers a unique opportunity to behold the spectacular classical palace dance performances, enjoy the soothing music and gorge on lip-smacking food.
Nusa Dua Festival
Nusa Dua Festival is celebrated in the month of August and September. It features multitude of colourful cultural events, brilliant handicraft exhibitions, mesmerizing traditional art, enthralling dance, outstanding drama and enamouring music performances. Travellers booking airline tickets to Bali can immerse in the glorious culture of the island as the festival offers wonderful cultural performances and activities.
Bali Kite Festival
Last but not the least, a unique among all festivals – Bali Kite Festival is celebrated in Padang Galak near Sanur beach during June. The festival is celebrated to request god for creating rich harvests and crops. On this festival, multi-hued and different shaped kites accentuate the appeal of aqua blue sky. Children as well as adults take part in the kite flying competition and the ambience of the beach is punctuated with entrancing melody of gamelan orchestra.
